Q. I'm building a new house and have to select paint colors for the rooms. The main floor has a family room, living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and mud room. How do I select paint colors so that all rooms blend with one another?

A. Check out Sherwin Williams' color visualizer to test different colors in various rooms. It's the best online previewer of any paint company out there. The "painted" rooms look the most realistic, + it gives suggestions for coordinating colors at the bottom of the page. http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp Just a suggestion that I might make to ensure that your home has a cohesive flow is to use the coordinating color scheme as a map. For example, if you choose "rock candy" for your living room, then use "upward" in the adjoining room, and then "chamois" in the next. Or just make a note of your faves. Anyhoo, have fun with it!

Q. Two new lounge/sitting areas are under construction in the aged care facility where i work.We need to come up with names for these rooms. These rooms will be used for when family visit eldely residents and also as a quiet place for the eldery to relax.They both contain kitchenettes. Any ideas people?

Q. We have a tile entry that leads to carpeted stairs. To the left is a pool table room and to the right is a family room. My husband dislikes carpet and wants wood floors in the rooms to the right and left of the tile entry. Wow...so many different floorings. Is that tooooo much visually?

A. If the rooms are spacially well-defined then there's nothing wrong with changing floor coverings. If the stair railing is stained to match the wood floors that can really help to pull it all together.

Q. The blinds can be the same color or maybe different.

A. Brown ! Or anything dark! White blinds make no sense if you ask me.You can use all the same blinds throughout your house(looks better from when you view the house from the outside) You can make the inside of your rooms look different by putting curtains in the style you have or want ,of each of your rooms

Q. Hey everyone, my husband and I found out that we're pregnant and we're trying to pick out which room the use as the baby's, when he or she arrives. Both rooms are the same size and have one window facing the lawn on the side of the house. And both have the same wall coloring. Both have a large closet. the only difference is that one room has wood flooring and the second room has carpeting. The carpeting is rather short, and the closet in that bedroom sometimes gets blocked by the door when it's opened. Which would be better? this will be our first child, I suppose if we find out we have twins or something like that -- we'll use one room for their bedroom and the other for a play room. (twins have happened in my family) At the moment we have a guest room in our house and my husband would like to keep one of the rooms for guests when they come to visit. If it's just one baby then I guess it will work, if not they are getting a twin bed in the baby's room. We have a 3 bed/2 bath house right now. We'll probably have another child in a few years following this one if we can; but then I have a feeling we'd have to move.

A. It depends on who you get to do it, if you do it yourself and if you are moving anything like the furnace or water heater. i know people who took a month to just clean it up. 6 months to put in a couple of rooms and close to a year for a complete remodel.. but those were larger rooms if you are going to get someone to do it for you ask them for an estimation, hope this helps!

Q. One side of our house has the master bed room , 3 bedrooms and a den. Our AC unit is just over the doors to the MBedroom. THis room cools fine but as you go down the hallway the rooms get harder to cool. We SHut the vents in the master and then the other rooms cool fine but then we have a horrible whistling notes. If I put some sort of strap or bungee cord around the silver foiled tube that takes air to my master, would the help to restrict airflow enough to get more in the other rooms? any other ideas/ thoughts?

Q. How much does it cost to have three rooms about 12'X12' carpeted by these floor installation guys? About? I know it varies depending on quality carpet etc. Just give me a ballpark figure. Good quality carpet with a pad installed in three rooms. It's not a mansion just a three bedroom ranch. Rooms are empty and have wood floors. Thanks for the help. If you don't really know-Please don't guess.

A. Both Home Depot and Lowe's charge about $40 to send a professional estimator out to take all the measurements. Then if you buy the carpet that is taken off the price. Hardly anyone will give you that info over the phone...there are just too many variables, like how many pieces of carpet have to be cut, and how to work those off cuts into the overall scheme, and how many seams, etc.
